                Global Trade and Supply Chains

Global trade is undergoing a structural shift, with services becoming increasingly integrated into
manufacturing, agriculture and global value chains. According to UNCTAD’s Global Trade Update,
September 2026, services accounted for 71% of global intermediate inputs in 2022, underscoring their
growing importance to the production and international movement of goods. The share of services in
global exports increased from 23% in 2015 to 27% in 2025, reflecting the increasing “servicification” of
                global trade.

The expansion of digitally deliverable services has been particularly significant. Global services exports
grew by around 8.3% in 2025, while digitally deliverable services expanded at an average annual rate
of 7.1% over the past decade and now account for 56% of global services exports. Digital platforms,
software, data management, finance, logistics and other remotely deliverable activities are increasingly
embedded within international production networks, allowing services to contribute directly to the
competitiveness and value of manufactured and agricultural exports.
