The PetroFed Oil & Gas Industry Awards 2012 for excellence in performance in various categories were presented by the Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Dr. M. VeerappaMoily in the presence of Shri Vivek Rae, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas who presided over the well-attended function at New Delhi on June 28, 2013.

Congratulating the Award winners the Hon’ble Minister said that PetroFed had done a great thing in instituting these awards to nurture talent for excellence. We need to prepare the ground for posterity to secure the future for the nation and give up pessimism and negativism, he added. Lauding the Awardees, he said that quite stiff conditions had been put by the Jury. We need to build an inclusive society through expansion, inclusion and excellence, he said. Excellence is not an island but an ocean and that we must put in a lot of effort in R&D, the Hon’ble Minister said.

The Secretary, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Vivek Rae in his address earlier complimented PetroFed for praising ‘the good’ done by individuals, teams and corporates. He highlighted the various initiatives taken by the Government in the oil & Gas sector in the recent past and added that the Government would create a level playing field for the private and public sector to foster innovative competition and excellence.

Welcoming participants earlier, Shri R. S. Butola, Chairman, PetroFed& Chairman, IndianOil touched upon the prevailing global and national economic conditions and lauded the positive policy initiatives taken by the Government in the oil & gas sector in the recent past. Similar sentiments were expressed by the Vice Chairman, PetroFed& President (Refining Business), Reliance Industries Limited, Shri P. Raghavendran while proposing a vote of thanks towards the end. A brief on the genesis of the Awards was presented earlier by Director General, PetroFed, Shri A. K. Arora.

The scheme of Awards is open to all companies operating in India in the oil & gas sector. The evaluation is undertaken in line with pre-determined weightages assigned to various parameters fixed after due validation. Each award category must receive a prescribed minimum number of applications for giving away an award. Each award carries a trophy and a citation. The Woman Executive of the Year award also carries a cash prize of ` one lakh. The Innovator of the Year individual award has a cash component of ` two lakh while the team award has a prize of ` five lakh with each member of the team getting at least ` 50,000/-

The lessons learnt during ‘Awards’ evaluation every year are incorporated. The application form for each award has been carefully designed and validated to minimize subjectivity while giving benefit of additional initiatives taken. A significant contribution has been made by PetroFed knowledge partner and member company, PricewaterhouseCoopers in conceptualizing the Awards scheme and the preliminary evaluation of applications.

The Awards Committee is headed by Dr. Prodipto Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow, TERI and former Secretary to the Government of India. The members of the Awards Committee are Shri B. C. Bora, former CMD, ONGC; Shri M. B. Lal, former Chairman & Managing Director, HPCL.; Shri P. K. Agarwal, Director, Human Resources Division & Senior Fellow, TERI & former Director (Marketing) & Director (HR), IndianOil; Shri U. K. Dikshit, Director (Programmes), SCOPE & former ED (HR), IndianOil.

The Jury is headed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India. The other members of the Jury are Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, National Solar Energy Corporation of India and former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Shri Naresh Narad, former Chairman, Public Enterprises Selection Board and former Secretary to the Government of India.
